Paramount’s Vault on YouTube brings you dozens of classic movies

While YouTube always had its fair share of movies that you could watch on site if you knew how to find them, the selection of movies from official sources has increased significantly in recent years.

The Paramount Vault on YouTube brings you a selection of classic Paramount movies and clips that you can watch in full length on the site.

The selection seems to be restricted to the United States though (maybe other countries as well) and if you are not connecting from one of the allowed regions you will receive the dreaded “this video is not available. Sorry about that” error instead.

Only the clips uploaded to the channel seem to be available without geo-restrictions while all full-length movies are restricted.

A good starting point to find out what is being offered is the playlists page. There you find most movies listed into categories such as classics, drama or science fiction, and a click on the title opens all movies added to that playlist.

You will notice that some movies are listed in more than one category which reduces the number of unique movies available slightly.

You are probably wondering what you can expect to see there; here is a short selection of full movies offered by the Paramount Vault channel on YouTube:

  • Hamlet (Mel Gibson, Glenn Close, Alan Bates)
  • Missing in Action (Chuck Noris)
  • Bound (Jennifer Tilly, Gina Gershon, Joe Pantoliano)
  • Flashback (Dennis Hopper, Kiefer Sutherland, Carol Kane)
  • Masters of the Universe (Dolph Lundgren, Frank Langella, Meg Foster)

As you can see, these movies are mostly from the 90s or earlier with only a handful of movies from 2000 onward (like The Chumscrubber or Beneath). All in all, the selection does not include many blockbuster movies

As far as clips are concerned, you find a better selection there such as Braveheart’s full freedom speech, the full choosing the Holy Grail scene from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, the opening fight scene from Once Upon a Time in the West, or the end of Sunset Boulevard.

The selection of full movies pales to that of commercial streaming services for obvious reasons but that does not mean that you may not find a handful of movies there you will enjoy watching. Considering that these movies are free to watch if you are connecting from the right region, there is little to say against the offering as a whole.
